Step 1

Enable Sustainability Module

Verify the Microsoft Sustainability extension is installed and enabled in BC. Navigate to Sustainability Setup to confirm activation.

Step 2

Configure Chart of Sustainability Accounts

Create accounts for Scope 1 (direct), Scope 2 (energy), and Scope 3 (supply chain) emissions. Scope 3 typically represents 70-90% of total emissions.

Step 3

Set Up Emission Factors

Define emission factors to convert activities to CO2 equivalents. Use industry benchmarks for Cement, Iron & Steel, Aluminum, Fertilizers, Hydrogen, and Electricity.

Step 4

Map CBAM Product Categories

Map your imported items to the 6 CBAM categories: Cement, Iron & Steel, Aluminum, Fertilizers, Electricity, and Hydrogen. This links your BC items to reporting requirements.

Step 5

Configure Vendor Emission Data

Set up emission data collection from your non-EU suppliers. Request actual emission data or use default values until supplier-specific data is available.

Step 6

Enable Audit Trail & Reminders

Enable automatic audit logging for compliance documentation. Set up quarterly deadline reminders (Q1: Apr 30, Q2: Jul 31, Q3: Oct 31, Q4: Jan 31).

Step 7

Review Readiness Scorecard

Check your CBAM Readiness Scorecard to verify compliance status. Aim for 80%+ (green) before your first quarterly reporting deadline. Export audit trail for records.
